We Love our communities!

STH has over the years remained dedicated in championing a cause for the indigenous community…

Novelist George Eliot wrote, “What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?” Community care is entrenched in the mission of Subur Tiasa as the awareness that there are basic needs within our local community waiting to be met has become a driving force for our existence and progress. In order to maximize our impact and ensure sustainable positive change is achieved, our Impacting Communities strategy concentrates on two areas of needs that serve to Enrich and Empower human lives:

Enrichment – Infrastructure Erection And Social Integration

To enrich means to make one’s life more meaningful and full. The beauty of community living lies in the meaningful interaction and integration between members of the community. Yet this has unfortunately been an area of deprivation faced by the indigenous communities in Sarawak.

Subur Tiasa has intervened by building roads, bridges and jetties, and assisted in rural village development by building long houses, community centers, sports, medical and water supply facilities. We have also assisted local communities to build centers of worship (suraus and churches).

These have altogether served to enhance accessibility – especially for easing the locals’ burdens of transporting their village products to centers of commerce – but most importantly, these have facilitated communication and in turn promoted social integration and living in racial harmony.

Empowerment – Education And Employment

It has been said that education is the cornerstone of our communities and our country, there is no doubt that investing in education will come a long way in improving the livelihoods of our communities. Instead of merely feeding a child with a fish, it is better to teach him how to fish.

Subur Tiasa has built schools and kindergartens in remote areas for the benefit of the local community. We also provide teachers to ensure students receive quality education. To ease the burden of the families, we provide free transportation for the students.

The direct benefit of education is the improvement of one’s employment prospects and this brings sustainable change to one’s livelihood. At Subur Tiasa, we give priority to the locals in our hiring exercise, even those with little education, as we strive to equip them with work and survival skills.
